
Hanks' next role was as an astronaut and commander Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited him with Ron Howard. The film was generally praised by critics and the performance by the entire cast which included actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Kathleen Quinlan. The film also garnered nine Academy Award nominations, winning two. Hanks was the voice actor for Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's 1995 computer-animated film Toy Story (1995). His directorial debut came a year later with The Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and decline of a 60s-era music group. He also took on the role of a producer. Richard Schickel of Time magazine said that his performance was "charming", and most critics agreed that Hanks performance earned him a place in the top romantic comedy stars of his time.
